Die Jugendherberge im Schloss Burgdorf bietet ein einmaliges Übernachtungserlebnis: Als Teil des Museums vermischen die verschiedenen Räume Gegenwart und Ver- gangenheit und machen Geschichte lebendig. Jedes Zimmer widmet sich einem historischen Thema und ist mit den passenden Ausstellungsstücken eingerichtet. Interessierte erfahren zum Beispiel, was es mit dem Burgdorfer Stadt- brand auf sich hat, wie sich die Menschen im Mittelalter ge- waschen oder was die Kinder in der Schule gelernt haben. 115 Schlafplätze stehen temporären Burgherinnen und -her- ren während des ganzen Jahres zur Verfügung, jeweils als Doppel-, Familien- und Mehrbettzimmer mit vier oder sechs Betten. In den grosszügigen Aufenthaltsräumen lässt es sich entspannen, spielen, lesen und sich mit anderen Gästen austauschen. The youth hostel at Burgdorf Castle offers a unique overnighting experience, with each room offering guests a surprising setting. Interested visitors will find out for example how towns and cities were once protected against fires, learn about Bernese dialect expressions or watch slides depicting old views of the town. Original exhibits from days gone by, fun interactive stations, and exciting pic- tures from the collection of historical photographs make for an atmospheric ambience. 115 beds are available to our temporary Castle dwellers throughout the year, in double, family and shared rooms with four or six beds. The spacious recreation rooms are ideal for relaxing, playing, reading and discussing ideas with other guests. Besides breakfast served at the castle restaurant, all overnight guests are eligible for free admis- sion to the museum. Die Oberstadt, früher Wohngegend der feudalen Gesellschaft, ist eingebettet zwischen Schloss und Kirchenhügel und trumpft mit ihren Patrizierhäusern im Berner Spätbarock sowie klassizistischen Bauten. Eine Treppe führt von hier aus in die Unterstadt, welche damals das Gewerbe beherbergte. Heute sind die Gassen der Altstadt gefüllt mit gemütlichen Cafés und Restaurants, lauschigen Plätzchen und schmucken Geschäften. Wen es in die Natur zieht, der findet in der sanften Hügelland- schaft rund um Burgdorf genügend Möglichkeiten, sich die Zeit zu vertreiben. Ob wandern, velofahren, e-biken, golfen, einen der spannenden Themenwege verfolgen oder Speziali- täten aus der Region kosten – das Emmental bietet eine aufregende Vielfalt an möglichen Aktivitäten. The Castle is the ideal starting point for exploring the old town centre of Burgdorf with its distinctive mediaeval architectural style. The upper old town (Oberstadt), once the residential area of feudal society, nestles between the Castle and the church hill and features patrician houses in the Bernese late baroque style as well as classicist buil- dings. A stairway leads from here to the lower town, which back then was home to trade and commerce. Today, the alleyways of the old town are filled with quaint cafés and restaurants, secluded spots, and pretty shops. Those drawn to the countryside will find plenty of oppor- tunities to spend some leisure time in the gentle rolling hills that surround Burgdorf. Whether it’s for hiking, cycling, e-biking, golfing, walking along one of the exciting themed trails, or tasting regional specialities, the Emmental valley offers a wealth of activities. Day trips to Bern, Solothurn, Biel/Bienne and Thun are easily undertaken from Burgdorf.
